Minnows Our Minnows program is an integral part of the swim team and is designed to introduce young swimmers to the team. Our Minnows coaches teach breathing techniques, racing starts, rules and so forth. One of the main goals is to have each minnow swim in at least one meet. All coaches are required to be life guard certified. Our minnows coaches generally start out as minnows at Ashton and are great with all levels of swimmers. They have a wonderful way of working with the little ones to get them ready for the next step - to swim in a meet. They will be in contact with parents to notify you when your swimmer is ready to swim in their first meet. Please note -For the saftey of all swimmers, minnows must pass a swim test before acceptance in this program – your child must be able to tread water for 30 seconds and swim the width of the diving well. The coaches will conduct this test on the first day of minnow practice to determine if your child is ready for this program or if they should be moved up to the regular team. Minnows Coaches: Moyra Schauffler, Michael Cleary & Spencer Sterling - Moyra & Spencer started out as Minnows for Ashton together 10 years ago! Spencer and Michael swim year round for a PVS club team. All three coaches are Life Guard certified and will provide a very balanced and fun atmosphere for the Minnow swimmers. COST 1 family member $100.00 2 family members $130.00 3 or more $175.00 Practice -Start the Friday after MCPS is out from 9:30am to 10:15am thru the Wednesday before Divisionals. Mon., Tues., Wed., Fri. - 9:30am -10:15am Please make sure your minnow arrives for practice on time and ready with suit and goggles on! Please print out the Minnows Registration Form and return with payment to the Swim Team Representative. The Guard Office has a folder for the swim team if no one from the team is available. ALLIGATOR HANDBOOK Policy - We request that parents and family members stay clear of the swim deck while practice and meets are going on. There are designated areas for practice and spectator sections for meets. This helps in two ways - it prevents swimmers from being distracted as well as wandering away; Coaches need all swimmers full attention in order for them to learn and compete! Any questions or concerns can be taken care of after practice/meet. |
